Charm City Run knows that foot type really varies from
person to person. What could be great for one runner or walker might be not so
good for the next. We are committed to making sure each person is properly fit into
the appropriate shoe for him or her. To do this we go through a four step
process to ensure proper fit and support.
1) Building Background- We build background knowledge to find out where you’re
coming from. Are you running or walking? Have you had a history of injury? Does
anything hurt when you run? All of these questions and answers really key us
into what we think may work for you.
2) Gait Analysis- We will watch you walk and look to see what is going on. We
are looking at the shape of the foot, how the foot is moving, and also the
overall look of your body. This will get us to start thinking about the
appropriate support level and fit.
3) Measurement- Most runners and walkers are wearing the wrong size shoe. We
use the brannock device to measure the foot with and without weight first. This
tool helps us to look at elongation and width to determine proper sizing. A
running shoe should always fit larger than your casual/dress shoe. After we try on shoes
we always check the size inside the shoe to make sure we have enough space
for swelling and toe splay.
4) Video Gait Analysis- At the end of the fit process we always make sure we
get you on the treadmill to try the shoe out. While you’re running or walking
we are filming you in the shoe to make sure we have fit you properly. Some
people do run differently than they walk so this is a key part of the process.
We are able to slow down the film frame by frame to make sure that the shoe is
supporting you properly. You can have too little support, but you can also be
over corrected in a shoe. We want to make sure that we are right where we want
to be.
